Music Academy International is the premiere Young Artist Program in Europe today. The Opera Performance Studio is distinguished from other young artist programs by the variety and quality of opportunities it provides its participants. Young Artists are given the opportunity to perform leading & supporting roles in main stage productions with orchestra, and to work with world-class directors, conductors, coaches, and voice teachers. The focus of the studio is on professional development and ‘training through performance’. Former participants have been accepted into Young Artist Programs with the Houston Grand Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Lindeman Young Artist Development Program, Santa Fe Opera, English National Opera, Merola Opera Program, and the opera studios in Berlin, Munich, and Zurich. They have performed with leading opera companies including the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Opéra National de Paris, Staatsoper Berlin, and the Bayerische Staatsoper.

THE FINEST FACULTY OF ANY YAP – PERIOD!!! – The level of success of any YAP lies in their faculty. MAI provides an exceptional faculty including conductors, directors, voice teachers, and vocal coaches from the Metropolitan Opera, Dutch National Opera, English National Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Washington National Opera, Teatro la Fenice, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, and the Broadway Stage, in addition to Piper Artists Management, an internationally recognized management and production firm.
ROLE PERFORMANCE – As a member of the Opera Performance Studio you will be assigned a role to sing in a staged performance with the MAI Festival Orchestra. All artists are considered for cover roles that they feel will benefit their technical and dramatic aspirations as an artist. Additional performances include Opera Galas with the MAI Orchestra, Master Classes, & Concerts.
VOCAL COACHING & DICTION – Young artist will be provided vocal coaching to musically and stylistically prepare all roles assigned at MAI. Coaching also deals with diction issues as related to the languages you are performing in.
MASTER CLASSES – Master Classes are an integral part of your training at MAI and cover a wide variety of specialties including; vocal technique, performance repertoire, auditioning, operatic style, dramatic interpretation, language/diction, cross over, and business aspects of managing a professional career.
ARTIST MANAGEMENT CONSULTATIONS & PROFESSIONAL AUDITIONS – Young Artists at MAI have the unique opportunity to take part in artist management workshops and consultations offered by Mitchell Piper and Robin Blauers Piper, owners of Piper Artist Management, one of the top management firms in the world today. No other YAP offers the opportunity for advanced young artists to actually sign a professional management contract. MAI alumni that are now on the roster of Piper Artists include mezzo soprano Maya Gour, tenors Piotr Buszewski, and WooYoung Yoon, and soprano Claire Coolen, who are all enjoying International opera careers thanks to the efforts of Piper Artists.
ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING – Situated in the spectacular Primiero Valley, MAI offers the unique opportunity to train, perform, and explore in one of Italy’s most beautiful regions. Offering a full schedule of cultural and recreational opportunities, whether walking along the romantic canals of Venice, or visiting the historic Arena di Verona, to hiking and water canyoning in the Dolomites – MAI promises to provide lifelong memories.

COSTS –Music Academy International charges one low fee that includes tuition and housing for the duration of the festival. See the “Costs” tab for complete studio fees.
APPLICATION PROCESS – Young Artists are accepted by Live and Video auditions. Applications are available by clicking the “Apply Now!” button below, or through YAP Tracker until March 31, 2020. Videos must be unlocked for viewing. Video auditions should include two arias of varying styles that demonstrate your technical and artistic ability for the operas we are presenting.
ACCEPTANCE – MAI will notify all applicants within 10 days of their application as to their acceptance into the 2020 Festival. Once confirmed you will receive an acceptance package with pertinent information on the festival, payments, travel, housing, and basic information pertinent to your stay in Italy. MAI provides free round trip private shuttles from Venice’s Marco Polo Airport (VCE).
